Their removal requires the services of the experts at Pestco because they are often resistant to pesticides.

A Brief Pest-Centric History Of Erie County

Pest control has been a problem since the dawn of humanity. For the early farmers living in agrarian societies, control was limited, and farmers dealt with the problem largely by planting enough for their families and the pests, such as deer, rabbits, insects etc. This was also true of Erie County, where retrieved artifacts indicate the presence of a mysterious ancient population that was not native-American.

Native American Tribes and Pestilence

These indigenous people slowly began to coalesce with Native-American tribes that later became known by European explorers in the late 15th and 16th centuries as The Six Nations. This confederacy of Indian tribes was comprised of mostly farmers who cultivated the land with corn, beans and squash. They dealt with pestilence with infusions of nicotine, herbs and arsenic.

The First Use Of Pesticides

Erie’s waterfront served as a naval base during the War of 1812, and afterwards became a shipping and industrial city. In 1820, the discovery of a local graveyard revealed giant skeletons and a brass watch the size of a common saucer. This only deepens the mystery of the identity of Erie’s original inhabitants. It wasn’t until the 1860s that a real pesticide was developed. Paris Green was a mixture of arsenic and copper sulfate.
